When Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone in 2007, competition in the smart phone market collapsed and the industry, virtually had to reinvent itself. Three years later, the situation has begun to change what has forced Apple to raise the level of their own invention. Yesterday, in the revival of this device in its fourth version, Apple’s CEO insisted that this is the most “beautiful and accurate.” He added that the new iPhone 4 represents “the biggest leap forward since the original iPhone.”
The executive bragged that is the thinnest smart phone market (9.3 mm and 24% thinner than the previous one), able to make video calls and “screen with a resolution never before seen on a phone, thanks to a technology called “Retina display” that elevates the quality of image and text “on an exceptional basis.” The team, which has the A4 processor Apple (like the IPAD), also has a 5 mega pixel camera with LED flash, records video in high definition and has a battery that offers up to 40% more talk time.
Jobs noted that there is competition with Google and Nielsen figures released to silence those who say they are already sold more iPhones Android. “The iPhone has 28% market share of smart phones in the U.S., three times the Android. And the iPhone OS took 58.2% of mobile browsing and 22% of Android.” In three years, Apple has sold 50 million iPhones.
The first criticism of the iPhone 4, which was already known to some extent, since it was lost by an employee and their pictures were seen around the world, are initially very friendly although he missed that Apple did not present the battle to Google services cloud.
Since the iPhone is responsible for 40% of net sales for the company, Apple is not going to waste time to put this new phone on the market and the first units will be purchased on June 24 in four countries (U.S., Japan, France, UK and Germany) and late July in 18 countries, including Spain. In September is expected to reach 88 countries. The price, in dollars, is the same as the current 3G (199 dollars if the 16-gigabyte model and 299 for the 32 gigas). The previous model will be sold for $ 99 and the 3G to be withdrawn.
In an event full of technical problems because of poor wifi connection, Jobs also dedicated to praise the iPad, showing numbers unquestionable success. Apple said it sold one tablet every three seconds, that the App Store now has over 8,500 applications built for this device and has registered 35 million downloads (17 applications per IPAD). A bulky figure, though still far from the 5,000 sold millions of applications for the iPhone.
Jobs also noted that have been downloaded five million electronic books in 65 days in the iPad, representing 22% of market share, according to the editors. The tablet, which is in 19 countries in late July, will now read books in PDF, as well as a book.
The manager also did not ignore the health of its application store and said that 15,000 applications received each week for approval and 95% are within seven days. “Those who are rejected are because they do not work as its creators say, because they use private APIS or because they are hung,” Jobs argued, who noted that Apple has already paid U.S. $ 1,000 million developers by sales of its applications in the App Store. The executive said three new applications that will soon be in store: Netflix for movie download, the game Zynga Farmville, and Activision’s popular Guitar Hero.
